This year, revenue from ticket sales to Angkor is only $ 70 million

Ticket sales at the Angkor Archaeological Park increased to $ 69.4 million in the first eight months of this year, a decrease of 11.82% compared to the previous year.

The report said that a total of 1.5 million tickets were sold to foreign tourists. This represents a 11.05% year-over-year drop in ticket sales.

Ticket sales last month were more than $ 7.1 million, down 21.50 percent year-on-year.

Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, said recently that the sharp decline in tourists to historical sites could be due to strong competition with neighboring countries.

“There is strong competition with Thailand and Vietnam in tourism. They offer discounts on airfare, visa offers, and some Asean countries do not charge visa fees to attract tourists, ”said Mr Chhay Sivlin. "Sivlin said visa services on the mainland of the Kingdom of Cambodia are complicated and slow for international tourists, while lack of direct flights to international destinations."

In July, Tourism Minister Thong Khon outlined zero US dollars, a major contribution to the decline in the number of foreign tourists to Siem Reap.

He said that a “zero dollar” tourist operator was the target of a tourist destination in Siem Reap. Cambodia received more than 3.3 million foreign tourists in the first six months of this year, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year, according to a report from the Ministry of Tourism.
