China Concerns Young People Addicted to Video Games Now Ban
China has announced a ban on online gaming for minors, among other new measures to curb addiction to video games.
The official government guidelines will apply to all online gaming programs operating in the country, most notably Tencent, the world's largest gaming company.
According to the new rules, players under the age of 18 will be banned from playing online games between 10pm and 8am, while minors can only play 90 minutes while they can play forever. Up to 3 hours a day on weekends and public holidays.
The guidelines also impose restrictions on the amount that minors can transfer to their online gaming account. Gamers between the ages of 8 and 16 can top up only 200 yuan ($ 29) a month, while the maximum for those aged 16 to 18 is 400 yuan ($ 57).
